Hey All, It’s been a bit since I posted in here. I guess the main reason is because I’ve been so busy with work and family stuff.
Have you ever wondered what makes a good voice over for an explainer video? What make a buyer pull the trigger and hire one voice actor over another?
It would seem that there are several reasons. 1. The client is always looking for someone good at what they’re doing (It cuts down on them having to do pickup sessions). 2. There is sometimes a location specification. Clients sometimes like to have their talent relatively close just in case they need them to come into a studio they have set up. 3. They are looking for a very specific accent, because their audience is very specific.
Any, or all of these reasons may play into you getting the gig. After 14-years and hundreds, if not thousands, of videos recorded have showed me that you must always be educating.
Do you work with a coach that does explainers, or is familiar with the trends? If not, then I’d highly recommend doing so. There is a propensity to think we know it all, but we don’t! I work with coaches all over the world and find that my knowledge on the subject of voice over is as small as ever.
So, just going over things in review make sure that you are local, good at your craft, you have tried extending your knowledge of accents, and you are familiar with the recent trends.
